Action Photography

Recently, I went to the Renaissance Fair here in Charlotte and I was surprised to learn how much there is to photograph.  My goal was to shoot action and I fulfilled my action quota to the max. There were swashbuckling pirates using whips

There were flying birds of prey, (make sure you have your camera set to fast shutter speed),

and then there was the pinnacle of entertainment: the Jousting Match. The trick to photographing action is to be in the right place at the right time with your camera at the ready. It doesn’t hurt to have a flash in case you need it to fill in the shadows. But we were lucky because it was an overcast day.  The lens I brought did a great job pulling the images in close and I was able to fill the frame in most instances.

At every event there were people in colorful costumes and amazing feats of skill. That made it all the more fun to photograph the scene.
