After a long airplane ride via Phoenix and Los Angeles, we arrived at our hotel, Royal Kona in Kona, Hawaii at about 8:30 Tuesday evening, February 19, 2013. We would be spending 4 days in Kona before joining our hiking group for our 6 day journey around “The Big Island” of Hawaii.
Since everything at the hotel closes up at 9:00 pm we met up with a Canadian couple for drinks and dinner at a nearby restaurant. By the time we got to bed we had been up 24 hrs. We were tired.
Bob’s brother, John, arrived at the hotel before us and we did not see him until the next day for breakfast at the restaurant overlooking the ocean. The weather was clear and sunny and warm. We would soon find out that the Big Island of Hawaii has many other weather patterns to offer.
Here are some scenes from the first few days of adjustment in Kona before our hiking holiday would begin with an introductory meeting and dinner on Friday, February 22, 2013.
Bob and I were able to enjoy a little snorkeling from a catamaran that took us to a little cove with a Captain Cook memorial. In the hills above the cove there is a town named after him. Here is a photo from the sailboat:
Various sunset scenes captured from the pool deck.
The next blog will focus on the first day of our hiking experience on Hawaii.
